Public Art Program
WHAT is Public Art?
Elements of a public space that are designed by a professional artist or artist team. This may include sculpture, statues or monuments; painting; murals; graphic arts; photography; crafts in clay, fiber and textiles, wood, metal, plastics, glass and other materials; mixed-media; functional art; or environmental art as determined in the City’s sole discretion. Public Art can be permanent or temporary.
WHY Public Art?
"Public art, in all its diversity, can mediate all spaces as places." - John Newling
All houses need doors, windows and walls just as all cities need public safety and public works. What makes a house a home, however, is the decor, the specific arrangement of the furniture, the colors of the walls and carpet. That's what public art does for a city. It strengthens and sometimes creates the identity of the place, brings community pride and helps make a city feel like home.
HOW We Got Here

Entries into Honoring Through Art: Reflections of Courage will reflect the diverse creative talents of our local veteran community through artistic expression. This exhibition will feature the artwork of veterans and also create a space to honor their service. The exhibition will run from November 7 through November 22 with the opening reception on Thursday, November 6 from 5-8pm. Submissions may include 2D and 3D artworks, including but not limited to paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, sculptures, musical instruments, textiles and clothing, etc.
The City of Mansfield is looking for artists to create small gifts to be sold in the Wallace-Hall Holiday Market. This will be a unique market in that all items for sell will be displayed as an art exhibition, giving the feel of an exhibit rather than a craft fair. Items to be sold can include: original prints, small framed art, custom jewelry, apparel, dinnerware, small sculptures, etc. The Market will be open on Fridays through Sundays in December, as well as select extended days (TBD soon).
The City of Mansfield is seeking qualified artists to create unique, creative photo op cutouts and backdrops for our annual HomeTown Holidays event on December 6! All designs must be Christmas-themed, life-sized (minimum), and encourage patron interaction at this outdoor event (think "life-sized Christmas cards"). Don’t miss this opportunity!
